I soaked dried beans overnight, then simmered them while I walked the dogs and drank my coffee.Next I sautéed onion, garlic, and hamburger. Two bags of cherry tomatoes, and some green beans from the freezer, a half jar of leftover tomato sauce, chili powder, salt , pepper, and…maple syrup! I sat the pot on the wood stove to stay hot until a crew of hungry tappers came through.They liked it fine but raved over a tray of hot Irish Soda Bread spread with spoonfuls of Maple Cream. My dessert, a Maple Cake, wasn’t ready in time but I expect they’ll be back when dark brings them home from the woods.
