Preheat oven to 400°. Butter a baking dish. Sift dry ingredients together, then cut in butter. Add milk, stirring with a fork to make a soft dough. Knead a few times, and roll into a rectangle on a floured surface.
Filling:
Spread 6 Tablespoons of softened butter evenly over dough, and sprinkle with 1 Cup Maple Sugar. Variations at this point are sprinkling with cinnamon or chopped walnuts. Starting at long side, roll up tightly, and slice into inch wide pinwheels. Place in baking dish and sprinkle with Maple Sugar. Bake about 20 minutes.
Notes
I took a batch of these to the woods crew out in the sugarbush today, still warm. They were glad to stop tapping for a lunch break! I doubled the recipe, and they’re all gone.
