Maple Bars


  • 1/3 cup ground nuts
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup maple sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup maple sugar
  • 1 egg yolk, beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 Tbs heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  • Preheat the oven to 350°. Grease an 8-inch baking pan.
    For the crust: mix the ground nuts, flour, softened butter, 1/3 c. maple sugar and salt to combine. Press evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside to cool while you prepare the filling.
    For the filling: Combine the 2/3 maple sugar, egg, butter, maple syrup, and heavy cream in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in chopped nuts and vanilla. Pour over crust. Bake 20 minutes.
